Searching for Inspiration

After being cooped up in the office with work for what seems like days on end, I was itching to get outside and get some photos with some snow on the ground! Normally, this time of year in Central Illinois, it's not a problem to capture a scene with snow in it, however, the last couple of years we have gotten very little snow. When it did snow, it melted by the next day or so (can we all say "global warming" ?). We had a mild blizzard two days after Christmas, but only received a dusting here in Danville. It was mostly wind whipping at 40 mph. I decided to drive alittle further south to Parke County, Indiana and see how much snow they had gotten there. I chose Parke County as it is the covered bridge capital of the world and wanted to see the bridges in their snowbound glory! The trip did not disappoint, while there was not alot of snow, there was enough to make for some awesome photographs. They had the kind of snow that stuck to the tree limbs and trunks which make the woods look like a story book. I love the way snow makes everything clean and creates a bit of a blank slate, causing you to focus on other elements in the photograph. It was certainly cold and many of the photos I snapped from inside my car, however I did venture out of the car for the photographs I took of the Bridgetown Mill. This is an old grain mill situated on the banks of a small river that has been somewhat restored and now serves more as a tourist attraction, but is certainly photogenic with a coat of fresh snow. Will be posting some of my photos from this trip on the website soon for purchase. All in all, it was worth the drive and braving the elements!
